Gold Bullion Products:
Many investment experts
believe that adding gold to your
investment portfolio may improve its
performance. One reason is that the
forces that determine gold's price
usually differ from, and in many
cases counter, the forces that
determine the price of many financial
assets.
Few things have endured
as long as gold. For over 5,000
years, through feast and famine, boom
and bust, gold has been prized for
its beauty and valued for its rarity.
As a medium of exchange, gold has
changed the world of commerce by
providing a standard of value that
has lasted through centuries of
trade.
Today, gold continues to
have the unique ability to retain its
value. Importantly, one third of all
the gold in the world is held by
governments. In today's economy, gold
still remains a strong financial
foundation. Quite simply, gold is
money, and it is still trusted as a
form of money more than any other
currency...a true test of the
enduring value of gold.
American
Gold Eagles
|
The American Gold
Eagle Bullion Coins were authorized by
Congress in 1985, and production began
with the 1986 issue. Each coin is 22
karat fine, and the gold is alloyed with
copper and silver to increase the
durability and resist scratching. The
obverse design was derived from the
original Twenty Dollar gold coin designed
by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. American
gold eagle bullion coins are America's
only official investment grade gold
bullion coins. The gold content and
purity of each coin is guaranteed by the
United States Government, and they can
even be included in an Individual
Retirement Account (IRA).
The American Gold Eagle is
issued in four different sizes, and each
coin is a legal tender issue with a
stated face value. The available sizes
are one-tenth ounce, one-quarter ounce,
one-half ounce, and the full one ounce
gold coin. The lowest premium above the
actual gold content is usually found on
the one ounce size. The smaller sizes are
often given as gifts or used in jewelry.

Krugerrands
Krugerrands
date back to 1967 and are one of the earliest
pure bullion coins issued solely for their
gold content. Brochures describe the Krand as
the most widely owned bullion coin in the
world with over 46 million ounces in
circulation since its inception in 1967. Like
the American Gold Eagle, Krands come in four
sizes ranging from one-tenth ounce up to the
one ounce sized coin. As a general rule,
Krands tend to trade closer to the actual
bullion content than the American Gold Eagle
and the Canadian Maple Leaf.
Gold bullion
is also available in a number of other forms,
such as, Canadian Maple Leafs, Mexican 50
Pesos and smaller denominations, Austrian
Philharmonics, Sovereigns, and a host of
small sized coins similar to the 20 Francs or
20 Lire.
If your
